(<em>Scroll for English version<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Las traducciones extraordinarias de Edgar Allan Poe<\/strong><br \/>\nConferencia Internacional<br \/>\n27 de noviembre de 2009<br \/>\nFacultad de Traducci\u00f3n e Interpretaci\u00f3n<br \/>\nInstituto de Ciencias del Lenguaje<br \/>\nUniversidad de Mons<br \/>\nCONVOCATORIA A ENVIAR PONENCIAS<\/p>\n<p>2009, a\u00f1o del bicentenario del nacimiento de Edgar Allan Poe, un aniversario que ning\u00fan cr\u00edtico literario o lector \u00e1vido de las traducciones de imaginaci\u00f3n puede ignorar pues Poe el ensayista, el poeta, el escritor de cuentos, ha sido traducido por renombrados escritores y poetas o grandes traductores literarios que ayudaron a difundir una creaci\u00f3n literaria que influir\u00eda la escena art\u00edstica de pa\u00edses como Rusia, Francia o Alemania radical y perdurablemente; y esto, s\u00f3lo para citar a los primeros que introdujeron a Poe en sus propias culturas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 lugar hay que asignar a Poe en la cultura de su Am\u00e9rica natal y en la cultura europea de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y del siglo XX? Tal como Hawthorne el novelista enlaza el siglo XVII puritano y la ficci\u00f3n cosmopolita de Henry James, as\u00ed Por enlaza el siglo XVIII, en parte de Swift pero a\u00fan m\u00e1s de Sterne, Beckford y la novela g\u00f3tica de Horace Walpole, no s\u00f3lo con las historias de detectives de Conan Doyle y sus seguidores en el siglo XX sino con las vidas y obras de los simbolistas franceses del siglo XIX y con los decadentistas de la escuela del <em>fin de si\u00e8cle<\/em> y sus sucesores dada\u00edstas de los a\u00f1os veinte. Pocas veces en la historia de la literatura un escritor ha debido tanto al pasado y, al mismo tiempo, por su propia originalidad, influido en tan grande variedad de sucesores. Tanto Baudelaire como Conan Doyle, Mallarm\u00e9 como Kipling, Huysmans y Aragon como Julio Verne, Dostoievsky como Willard Huntington Wright, el amigo y colega de H. L. Mencken que escribi\u00f3 sus historias detectivescas de Philo Vance con el seud\u00f3nimo de S. S. Van Dine. Ninguno de estos escritores habr\u00eda sido el mismo sin el ejemplo de Poe. Y no es posible imaginar a Poe, a pesar de su fuerte car\u00e1cter pionero, sin el ejemplo de Scout, Byron y los h\u00e9roes y hero\u00ednas de la novela g\u00f3tica, a quienes Poe recibi\u00f3 con gran respeto.<\/p>\n<p>Deseamos explorar, por medio de las grandes traducciones escritas en las principales lenguas europeas, c\u00f3mo estas traducciones <em>de imaginaci\u00f3n<\/em> han contribuido a la crear un agudo sentido de lo literario como algo enteramente moderno, moderno en su concepci\u00f3n aun estando profundamente enraizado en la cultura del pasado, en tanto \u00e9sta ya conten\u00eda las semillas de su propio futuro. Traducciones extraordinarias <em>de imaginaci\u00f3n<\/em> por la estatura privilegiada de los poetas y escritores que se dedicaron a ellas, y entre los que est\u00e1n Baudelaire, Mallarm\u00e9, P\u00e9guy, Cort\u00e1zar, Pessoa, Pavese y otros de igual prestigio y calidad en las lenguas germ\u00e1nicas y eslavas. \u00bfQu\u00e9 deseaba rescatar, en principio, esta <em>inspirada modernidad<\/em>? De este aliento literario y po\u00e9tico, evidencia de la inteligencia excepcional y extraordinaria de Poe, \u00bfqu\u00e9 ha pasado a la posteridad que la ha hecho crecer y adquirir la estatura de una creaci\u00f3n original, algo que habitualmente s\u00f3lo se concede a las palabras del poeta? Los varios acercamientos al tema de la conferencia tratar\u00e1n las traducciones literarias as\u00ed como las \u201ctraducciones\u201d o adaptaciones musicales, pl\u00e1sticas o f\u00edlmicas. Se propondr\u00e1n examinar las cualidades del fen\u00f3meno que a\u00fan es la traducci\u00f3n y difusi\u00f3n de la obra de Poe, que a\u00fan es fuente inagotable de inspiraci\u00f3n para la literatura y las otras artes. Consideraremos, en verdad, lo que en palabras de Jakobson y Efim Etkind puede llamarse recreaci\u00f3n o transmutaci\u00f3n. Las colaboraciones que arrojen luz en el car\u00e1cter necesariamente extraordinario o imaginativo de las traducciones de Poe ser\u00e1n consideradas sin importar la naturaleza del medio en el que se haya creado la traducci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Res\u00famenes de una p\u00e1gina, m\u00e1s una breve bibliograf\u00eda y una nota bio-bibliogr\u00e1fica acerca del autor de la ponencia, deber\u00e1n enviarse hasta el 20 de febrero de 2009 a Nadia D\u2019Amelio: nadia_damelio@hotmail.com.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>E.A.Poe\u2019s Extraordinary Translations<\/strong><br \/>\nInternational Conference<br \/>\n27 November 2009<br \/>\nFacult\u00e9 de Traduction et interpr\u00e9tation<br \/>\nInstitut des Sciences du langage<br \/>\nUniversit\u00e9 de Mons<br \/>\nCall for Papers<\/p>\n<p>2009, year of E.A.Poe\u2019s birth bicentenary, an anniversary which no literary critic or ardent reader of translations of imagination can afford to ignore since Poe the poet, essay writer and tale writer has been translated by renowned writers, poets or great literary translators who helped diffuse a literary creation that was to influence the literary scene of countries like Russia, France or Germany radically and lastingly, to quote but the first to introduce Poe into their own culture.<\/p>\n<p>Which place are we to attribute to Poe in the culture of his native America and in the European culture of the second half of the nineteenth century and of the twentieth century ? Just as Hawthorne the novelist is the link between the Puritan seventeenth century and the cosmopolitan fiction of Henry James, so does Poe link the eighteenth century, partly of Swift but more so of Sterne, Beckford and the Gothic romance of Horace Walpole, not only with the detective stories of Conan Doyle and his twentieth-century followers, but with the lives and writings of the French Symbolists of the nineteenth century and with the decadents of the fin de si\u00e8cle school and their Dadaist successors of the twenties. Seldom in the history of literature has one writer owed so much to the past, while at the same time, by his own originality, influencing so wide a variety of successors. Baudelaire as well as Conan Doyle, Mallarm\u00e9 as well as Kipling, Huysmans and Aragon as well as Jules Verne, Dostoevsky as well as H.L.Mencken\u2019s friend and colleague Willard Huntington Wright who wrote his Philo Vance detective stories under the pseudonym S.S.Van Dine. None of these writers would have been quite the same without the example of Poe. And we cannot imagine Poe, despite his strong streak of the pioneer, without the example of Scott, Byron and those heroes and heroines of Gothic romance whom Poe welcomed with great respect.<\/p>\n<p>We wish to explore, by means of the great translations written in the major European languages, how these translations of imagination themselves have contributed in forming an acute sense of an entirely modern literariness, modern in its conception even though it is deeply rooted in the culture of the past in so far as the latter already bore the seeds of its future. Extraordinary translations of imagination because of the privileged status of the writers and poets who dedicated themselves to them, among the latter Baudelaire, Mallarm\u00e9, P\u00e9guy, Cortazar, Pesso\u00e0, Pavese and others of equal status and quality in the Germanic and Slavonic languages. What has this inspired modernity tried to save or preserve in the first palce ? Of this poetic and literary breath, evidence of Poe\u2019s exceptional \u2013 extraordinary- intelligence, what has been passed on to posterity for it to grow and acquire itself the status of an original creation \u2013 a status usually granted to the sole words of the poet ? The various approaches to the theme of the Conference will deal with the literary translations as well as with the \u00ab translations \u00bb or adaptations through music, image or film. They will endeavour to call up the qualities of the phenomenon that still represent the translation and diffusion of Poe\u2019s works, everlasting sources of inspiration as they are for literature and other related arts. We shall indeed consider what, in Jakobson\u2019s and Efim Etkind\u2019s words, can be referred to as recreations or transmutations.
